Boys 16-19

Zander Gibson shot a pair of 73’s–146 (+4) to win the Tour Championship at Quail Hollow in the Boys 16-19 division.  He fired the exact nine hole scores each day; 38 (+2) on the front and 35 (E) on the back.  Bentley Stover had a one stroke lead going to the final hole and finished with a double to lose by one stroke to Zander.  He played the first 17 holes one under before flying the 18th green and 3 putting.  His final total was 75-72–147.  Jack Gole shot 75-75–150 to finish 3rd.  Jack’s only issue was a triple on #12 in the first round.  Gavin Tallal had the highlight shot of the day; he holed out his 2nd shot on the par 4 #10 for an eagle 2.

Boys 15 & Under

Bradley Chill Jr. was able to hold off Nick Longano and Connor Gdovin to win the Boys 15 & Under division.  Bradley shot 76-77–153 to win by 2 strokes.  He played his last 10 holes even par and that was the key to victory.  Nick and Connor both shot 4 over on the last nine and that proved to be the difference.  Nick shot 76-79–155 and Connor shot 75-80–155.  Nick won the match of cards for the 2nd place trophy.

Girls 19 & Under

Nora Nelson kept up her winning ways with an 81-84–165 to win the Girls by 13 strokes over Catherine Wang with 88-90–178.

The Skedaddlers earned more Skittles at Shaker today!

The last flagstick in the 18th hole today by the final pairing (The Mohicans) was a 3 hour and 54 minute round.  Our Skittles for Skedaddlers program kicks in whenever we achieve last-flag-in under 4 hours.  This means the entire field ahead of the last group had to play at least as fast as they did.  So, plan on getting Skittles at Madison on Thursday.

Shaker really did itself a favor by cutting down the high fescue grass.  In years past our last-flag-in was always more than 4 hours and 30 minutes at Shaker.  Without the high fescue causing long ball searches, play is now able to move along at a good pace.  Thumbs up to Shaker Heights CC!

Kimmel and Gdovin shoot 72 at Shaker Heights

Robert Kimmel and Connor Gdovin fired 72’s today at Shaker Heights CC to tie for first in the Overall Boys.  Robert and Connor play in the Boys 14-15 division, but all Boys play from the same tees.  Robert got his round started with an eagle 3 on the Par 5 third hole, he also had 4 bogeys and one birdie to finish +1.  Connor started bogey, bogey, but add 4 birdie to his mix that also included a double and another bogey to finish +1.  Liam Ottaway finished 3rd in the Boys 14-15 with a 77.  Liam was one under through 7 with 3 birdies, but played 7 over on the last 11 holes to finish +6.

In the Boys 16-19, Drew Covitt played the first 12 holes at 3 under par, but finished with 3 bogeys and a double on the last 6 holes for a 33-40–73.  His 73 finished him one stroke ahead of Emmett Weil who was also 3 under through 12 holes.  Emmett had a triple on #13 and 3 more bogeys on the way to the clubhouse.  Antonio Bodziony took third with a 36-40–76.  #13 seemed to destroy many of the good rounds today.  Cole Horvath was -1 thru 12 holes and tripled #13 to finish with 37-40–77.   Tommy Coyne was even par thru 11 holes and doubled #13 to finish with 36-41–77.  Kyle Horvath also had an under par round going until he hit the back nine to finish 35-44–79.

Olivia Zampedro in the Girls division had a great round going until she took a 9 (+4) on the Par 5 14th.  She was only 3 over thru 13 holes and finished the last 5 holes at 7 over to finish with 38-43–81.  Olivia’s 81 was still good enough to win the division by 4 strokes over Nora Nelson who had 47-38–85.  Catherine Wang finished 3rd with 45-41–86.
